Easter in Colombia

In Colombia as in many other countries in South America we celebrate the week before Easter as “Holy Week”. The official Easter Holiday's in Colombia are: Maundy Thursday and Good Friday. 

Usually Colombians commemorate these days (Christian Tradition) by visiting some beautiful destinations within our country that preserve our cultural and religious traditions. Also, these destinations welcomes foreign visitors that want to discover more about our country. 

Some of the recommended places to visit this 2017 Easter Season are:

  • Popayán: This is one of the cities in Colombia that highlighted this week the most. The people of this city walk through the streets commemorating the Passion and Death of Jesus Christ. You can experience this moving unforgetable event and also you can go all over its colonial architecture.

  • Chinquinquirá: Is a Colombian city of Boyacá, most known as the religious capital of Colombia. This place is surrounded by beautiful mountains and its the home of the Basilica de Chinquinquirá built by Fray Luis Zapata de Cárdenas in 1588. This place will provide you an overall of the Colombian religious traditions and architecture.

  • Mompox: Is a Colombian city of Bolivar that was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1995. In this beautiful city you will find several historic churches that will blow your mind and will take you back to the Colombian Colonial period (XVII Century).

These are just a few places that you can visit during this coming season; also you might travel to Barranquilla, Cartagena, Medellin or Bogotá. All of the main Colombian cities will offer you attractive places to visit.
