Rincón, which means ‘corner’ or ‘niche’ in Spanish, is a small town located on the Northwest coast of Puerto Rico, right where the Atlantic Ocean meets with the Caribbean Sea. Known for its beautiful seascapes, gorgeous beaches, colorful marine life, and exciting surfing, Rincón is home to approximately 14,000 residents and has been considered Puerto Rico’s favorite vacation destination for years. With plenty of hotels, vacation rentals, restaurants and beaches, Rincón is the perfect getaway for your next vacation trip.
The Northern part of this town serves as the surfing capital of the Caribbean when the currents collide from October until April. Domes, Sandy Beach, Steps, and Tres Palmas are some of the best surfing spots, while Corcega beach in the West coast is known for its beautiful, calm and clear, blue Caribbean waters perfect for swimming, paddle boarding and snorkeling. It’s also in this time of the year when whales travel south to the Caribbean escaping the cold currents form the North. You can enjoy whale watching from the Punta Higüera Lighthouse Park, locally known as “El Faro”, and if you are lucky, even while laying in the sand.
Activities and events during this time of the year include the Corona Pro at Domes (surf contest where some of the best local and international surfers come to compete), the Ramas Music Festival (a 2-day annual event with alternative rock and roll and reggae music), the Primavera Long Board Surf Contest and Spring Equinox Festival, the Rincon Beachboy Standup Paddleboard Race (a great family event with live music and after event party), and the Rincón Film Festival among many others. Art galleries and souvenir shops set around town feature unique items and exhibitions you will fall in love with. Should you plan to visit Rincón during Summertime, it is recommended to reserve your hotel accommodation with plenty of time in advance since this destination is visited by many locals.
From small hotels to guest houses and privately owned rental properties, Rincón has a variety of accommodation options for its visitors. It also has a variety of restaurants which offer delicious dining experiences in a low key and casual atmosphere. With stunning views of the sea, The English Rose is a great option for breakfast. For dinner, the Parrillería Vacas Gauchas and The Pool Bar are really nice among numerous other alternatives.
This is definitely the perfect destination for those who enjoy nature and outdoor activities like surfing, horseback riding, deep sea fishing, sailing, mountain biking, yoga and meditation, and long beach walks, among many others. If you want to relax, escape the city rush, and change sceneries, don’t wait any longer and visit Rincón in Puerto Rico.
