Destination of the Month: Pucon, Chile - The Entry to the Mountains

Pucon is a city at 785,4 km south from Santiago. It was founded by European colonist a the end of the XIX century, at the beginning it was a military settlement to guard the international borders, nowadays it is a very important touristic city. The good relationship between the natives and the colonists generated the cattle raising and the forest industry as the main economic activities during the early years. 

Pucon is known as the capital of adventurous tourism, it is very popular amongst Chileans and foreigners. It is surrounded by volcanoes, lakes, national parks and water-falls; that is why the tourists can take part in field excursions, horseback riding, kayaking, fishing among many other activities. During winter time skiing and snowboarding can be found on the Villarica Volcano ski slopes. 

You can stay in very nice hotels, located around the Villarica Lake, like the Grand Hotel Pucon, or in small boutique hotels and cabins, well equipped with great views of the lake. Walking around the city, you can find nice restaurants and cafes, you must try the pies and bakery at Cassis cafe or Cafe de la P.
